When you arrive at the ER with a fracture or other orthopedic trauma, your injury is first evaluated by an emergency-room doctor. If the injury is severe or complex, the doctor will consult with the on-call Structure Orthopaedics traumatologist. We will work together to prescribe the proper treatment, which may include surgery. In cases of emergency, surgery or next-level treatment will happen right away — even in the middle of the night. If the injury is serious but not currently an emergency, surgery or next-level treatment will happen during normal hospital hours, possibly the next day.
After Treatment or Surgery
A member of the Structure Orthopaedics team will see you during rounds. The timing of our visits may vary, largely depending on the surgical schedule. Learn more about our team approach.
When it is determined that you’re ready to leave the hospital, you will receive splint or cast care instructions as well as other information and precautions as needed. You will also receive paperwork with a request to call the clinic to schedule your follow-up appointment. Learn more about what to do after you leave the hospital.
